Update: Call to Support Greener Options
In our efforts to urge the BC Government to legalize Alkaline Hydrolysis (aquamation) and Natural Organic Reduction (human composting), we are pleased to share that we were invited to meet with Minister Niki Sharma, BC’s Attorney General with responsibility for the Cremation, Interment and Funeral Services Act this past May (2025).
Executive Director Peter Toppings was joined by Board President Stephen Kennedy and Board member-at-large Gord Plottel. The meeting was with Minister Sharma and several ministry staff. Both methods of disposition are under active review by the AG’s Office but no timelines were given when we might see any changes in the legislation.
It is important that residents of BC continue to advocate for the availability of these two eco-friendly methods in BC. It is not too late to add your voice: click here on how you can help.
Also, if you are at any community events this summer and your MLA is in attendance, take the opportunity to chat with them about this important issue.

Laura will provide an easy to understand framework for how human composting works and why this end of life option is such a benefit to the earth and to the human experience of grief and loss. Includes time for Q&A.
Date: Monday, July 21, 12noon – 1pm.
Alkaline Hydrolysis: A webinar on aquamation with a Canadian provider is in development and will be offered over the summer. Stay tuned for details!
